Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay
Just a short ferry ride across from Buenos Aires is a lovely break from big city life - Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. This tiny coastal village was wonderful without touristy gimmicks. From amazing food and wine to a breathtaking waterfront sunset and historic lighthouse, it was a peaceful way to spend a day. While meandering through the brick-paver streets, we found homemade pottery, a lovely cafe and bakery, the best butternut squash raviolis I've ever eaten, and incredibly friendly people. if you find yourself in Buenos Aires with an afternoon to spare, I can't think of a better way to pass the time.
