Sawyer & Co. - A Step Back in Time
I don't consider myself a mod aficionado. The 60's passed long before I was on this earth, and most of the aesthetic from that time doesn't scream "comfortable" or "practical" to me. That being said, a blast from the past can sometimes be a good thing. Sawyer & Co., an adorable east Austin diner, makes you feel like you stepped onto the set of Mad Men. Whether you're longing for comfort food served up on dishes from your grandmother's house or that perfect gin fizz, Sawyer & Co. is impressive. Now that I've feasted on breakfast and lunch, I can report with authority that you can't go wrong on the menu.
The coffee is steaming hot, the mimosas are strong, and you can sip both outside on a glider or next to a retro Airstream trailer. The muffaletta brings some New Orleans flavor to Austin, and the crispy onion ring strips are an excellent reminder that you're in an old school diner. If you're going to order one thing at Sawyer & Co. make it the deviled eggs. Served with loads of paprika, bacon, and diced bell peppers, these little eggs pack big flavor.
My favorite part of Sawyer & Co. is the reaction when we bring guests here. We took our parents recently, and their response reminded me of my first time at Disney World. "Oh, this reminds me of nana's house!" and "We had a clock like that growing up!" made the meal entertaining and fun - like stepping back in time.
With an aesthetic like a Hollywood set and a menu that goes on for days, Sawyer & Co. is worth a trippy visit.
